Interventional Radiation Oncology (Brachytherapy) expertise
The Radiation Oncology Clinic at Sana Klinikum Offenbach treats around 1,500 patients every year as either out-patients or in-patients. The interdisciplinary radiotherapy treatment is based on national and international standards and guidelines, using modern equipment and techniques. All types of cancer as well as certain benign tumors and non-cancerous inflammatory diseases are treated.
The radiation oncology clinic has a long tradition in Offenbach, going back as far as 1914 when gynecologic tumors were irradiated with radium.
A special focus area of the hospital is interventional radiation oncology (interstitial brachytherapy) for the treatment of malignant tumors, including those in the breast, brain, head and neck, cervix, rectum, lung, liver and as one of the internationally leading institutions prostate. Yearly, approximately 150 patients with prostate cancer receive brachytherapy treatment at the clinic.
The Brachytherapy staff of Sana Klinikum Offenbach has an international status as brachytherapy experts and plays a significant role in the organization of multiple international brachytherapy courses. Together with Elekta, they regularly organize ‘real-time image guided HDR brachytherapy for prostate’ workshops in their hospital, for multidisciplinary teams from all over the world. These workshops are renowned and highly appreciated by participants.
