Born out of community need in 1967, Boca Raton Regional Hospital is an advanced tertiary medical center (brrh.com) with 400 beds and more than 800 primary and specialty physicians on staff. The Hospital is a recognized leader in oncology, cardiovascular disease and surgery, minimally invasive surgery, orthopedics, women’s health and emergency medicine, all of which offer state-of-the-art diagnostic and imaging capabilities.
The Eugene M. & Christine E. Lynn Cancer Institute is one of the largest cancer centers in South Florida. The Lynn Cancer Institute treats more than 3,000 cancer patients each year.
Brachytherapy expertise
The Radiation Oncology department of the Lynn Cancer Institute treats approximately 1200 patients a year as either out-patients or in-patients.
A special focus area of the hospital is brachytherapy for the treatment of malignant tumors, including breast, GYN, and prostate and is one of the internationally leading institutions for skin brachytherapy. Yearly, approximately 100 patients with skin cancer receive brachytherapy treatment at the clinic.
The Brachytherapy Team is compromised of 3 radiation oncologists, Dr Tim Williams MD, Medical Director; Michael Kasper MD and Rashmi Benda MD and 3 physicists, Charles Shang, M.S, B.MED, D.ABR, Zoubir Ouhib,M.S, D.ABR and Jeremy Cole,M.S. Both, the Lynn Cancer Institute -Sandler Pavilion and the Lynn Cancer Institute –Delray are patient friendly and spacious and are equipped to provide the best possible care and outcomes for all patients.
The Brachytherapy staff of Lynn Cancer Institute, regularly organizes classroom-based workshops entitled ‘Essentials in Skin Surface Brachytherapy’, to educate Health Care Professionals on the best practices for treating non-melanoma skin cancers with HDR brachytherapy. These workshops are renowned and highly appreciated by participants.
