Oncorad | Clínica Sanatorio Aleman
Clínica Sanatorio Aleman is one of the largest hospitals in Concepción city, Chile with an in-patient capacity of 200 beds. Located in Concepción, it is a teaching /tertiary referral hospital with the adoption of highly advanced technology. The Radiation Oncology department of Oncorad has seen uninterrupted growth in the areas of research, medical studies, and the personnel development.
Oncorad introduced LDR brachytherapy in 2007 and has been using HDR brachytherapy since 2016.
Radiation oncologists and physicists from Oncorad attended workshops on gynecological brachytherapy in Pamplona and Madrid, Spain. The hospital was quick to adopt IGABT technology and has been offering gynecological brachytherapy to its patients since 2016, first using CT-based planning, and MRI-based since 2019.
Oncorad has an extensive brachytherapy service with a special focus on gynecological and skin cancer. A dedicated brachy team consists of 3 radiation oncologists and 2 medical physicists. Around 100 patients receive brachytherapy treatment a year. The center is recognized as an expert center in the region.
From 2016, Oncorad is the BrachyAcademy Educational Center for IGABT. From 3 to 5-day observational visits to the hospital could be organized for people wishing to learn more about MRI-based combined intracavitary/interstitial gynecological brachytherapy and skin brachytherapy, observe clinical workflow and daily practices at first hand.
