Online Educational Program for CT-Based Image-Guided Adaptive Brachytherapy in Cervical Cancer: The BrachyAcademy Experience

This paper addresses an important aspect of cervical cancer brachytherapy. In resource-limited settings where MRI is not available for brachytherapy planning, CT-based brachytherapy can provide a practical solution to expand patient access to high-quality treatment. Importantly, this approach is not based on CT imaging alone, but combines CT with transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) guidance during the procedure and detailed clinical drawings.

Dr. Umesh Mahantshetty and colleagues developed the IBS-GEC ESTRO-ABS CT-based contouring recommendations and initiated the prospective IMPACT study, which is part of the EMBRACE triplet study, to validate the CT-based target concept. However, successful implementation requires appropriate education and training.

To address this need, BrachyAcademy, together with Dr. Mahantshetty and his team, developed an online educational program for CT-based brachytherapy in cervical cancer. The program consists of three key components:
