The largest BrachyAcademy workshop in Mumbai

On January 24–25, 2025, BrachyAcademy, in collaboration with the team from Tata Memorial Center in Mumbai, organized the first dedicated workshop on brachytherapy for rectal cancer and soft tissue sarcoma. We were honored to host renowned international speakers, including Prof. Arthur Sun Myint, Dr. Te Vuong, and Dr. Alex Stewart.

The workshop attracted 57 participants – the highest attendance for any BrachyAcademy event to date.

While brachytherapy is already an established treatment for soft tissue sarcoma in India, its use in rectal cancer remains limited. Many attendees traveled to Mumbai specifically to learn about the “Watch and Wait” strategy in rectal cancer management.

Brachytherapy offers significant benefits in early-stage rectal cancer by increasing the rate of organ preservation and providing a viable alternative to radical surgery. This approach is especially meaningful for patients, as it allows them to avoid a stoma and maintain a better quality of life.
